A - Z April 2013

AMBER
(Daughter of Carol and Graham)
Amber wandered down the street
Her head down scuffing her feet
She’d be 15 years old in a couple of weeks
Perhaps she’d colour her hair in blue streaks
That would cause some consternation
It wouldn’t be civilised conversation
She’d have to wait till Granddad was round for his supper
He could take her side and calm her parents’ anger
She was getting good grades at school, she liked learning
She could cope with being a nerd and shrugged off the bullying
Her home came in to view, as she put her key in the lock
Opening the door, she stopped for a moment and took stock
She stepped on to the black and white tiles of the hallway
Breathing in the smells of her home and the love it conveys
She ran lightly up the stairs to her bedroom booting up her computer
Flopping down on her bed she flipped open her mobile and pressed answer.

  22. A funny thing about grandparents is that they were parents first. I wonder if Granddad would have approved of Carol (or Graham) having blue streaks. Doubtful!

This is a great start to A to Z, Sally.

  27. This reminds me of the limericks I used to read in childhood.
Amber clearly has some challenges, so I'll pick up where you left off with B.
