R is for Rings

R IS FOR RINGS

He put three rings on her finger
Promise, commitment and eternity
The gemstones sparkled and shone
She put him on a pedestal but not a throne

Working two jobs day and night
There wasn’t even the energy to fight.
Holding down the house and home
Keeping the kids well fed and then some

There was no other possible choice
So still and muted was her voice
Remaining silent but screaming inside
Slowly scrabbling and exploring to find

Something hidden underneath the trappings of life
There must be more to being a mother and a wife.
Finding her identity, her soul, her meaning
Has taken patience and time and a lot of healing

She’ll leave something behind her,
Something for the future
And so begins the start of a new book
Adding many additional chapters.

  1. Wow, I think you captured some of the feelings a lot of us mothers have had at one time or another.
