Empty
House
Toby
came home to an empty house every day after school. He was 12 years old and quite capable of
looking after himself. He saw the empty
food containers, the clean glass and quickly scurried to the kitchen to prepare
his lunch box for the next day.
He
thought he would just have a rest before he prepared the evening meal when he
saw his mum’s leather case on the table.
She was going to be so angry when she got home from her long
commute. He just had a peek at the
paperwork. Two words jumped out – Decree
Nisi.
Word count: 100
At 12 years old, I would be surprised he knew what that meant! Then again, he is a most self-sufficient child...
ReplyDeletePerhaps they should have told Toby what was going on rather than have him find out this day. Tough break.
ReplyDeletePoor kid.
ReplyDeleteSeems his lonely existence is about to become more so. A sorry story indeed.
ReplyDeleteHere's my contribution!
So sad. He's going to have to become even more self-sufficient.
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for making me look up a term I didn't know :)
