D is for David

D  is for  David

David is my first born
My one and only son
A clone of his father
With traits of his mum
He’s been through some rough times
But won't let it out
No-one gets really near to him
A tough nut to crack
He now has his own family
Lucky to be loved by his spouse
He has the charm, the mixture of everyone
Some Irish, Scottish and even Austrian
Is mixed in his blood
I want to heal his wounds
Wrap him up in my arms as I used to
Soothe him with cuddles and kisses
My place has been taken by a lovely lady
As I take a step back
Watching them from the sidelines
As they nurture and love their own family
As they work through the ups and downs of life .

  2. I dread the day I'll have to take a step back and watch from the sidelines as well. But their happiness is our happiness. Beautiful poem as always. (:

  3. Very nice. Does he read your blog? I wonder if he'll be a little embarrassed. :)

  4. Very straightforward and touching poem. I side with Faith and ask if he reads the blog? ;)

  5. Thanks for your comments. Luckily, my son doesn't read my blog. His partner does sometimes but they live in a part of the country where they are still on dial-up to connect to the internet!!

  6. My daughter and step-daughter read my blog. My daughter has told me more than once that I need to put a "tear-jerker" warning on some of my posts. I get a lot of, "Oh Dad..." responses from her too.

My step-daughter loves to debate some of the things I post, which I love to do with her.

  7. I love the honesty of this. Not many have the courage to express the pain of watching by the sidelines. Bravo, well done.
