The following photo is the PHOTO PROMPT. What does it say
to you? I dare you to look beyond the subject. I double dare you!

THE SCULPTURE
It’s
finished at long last. No more grinding
noises, no more iron filings to sweep up, no more cut fingers and blisters to
bathe, soothe and bandage.
Luke
asked me to close my eyes, no peeking he told me, as he led me out to the back
yard. He positioned me where he wanted
me, stood back ready with a camera to catch my instant reaction.
“Open
your eyes mum.”
To
be honest it wasn't what I was expecting.
I had to marshal my facial features into a false but loving smile.
‘Well
done, son. You are very talented.”

He is so eager for her approval, it's sweet. I'm glad she can smile. Great story.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to be honest when you're a mum faced with your child's creations. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteHe needs her approval to build his confidence..and mom is giving just that.
ReplyDeleteshe is the perfect Mum. Well described.
ReplyDeleteRealistic dialogue, and a touching scene. And he is very talented.
ReplyDeleteDear Sally,
ReplyDeleteHonesty is not always the best policy when it comes to a child's feelings. Nicely done.

Rochelle
What a shame you don't truly appreciate your son's undoubted talent!
ReplyDeleteI think even if it is not love at first sight you will grow to love his creation as you have that crayon drawing tucked away in your keepsakes.
ReplyDeleteDear Sally, Wonderful story and well done! Nan :)
ReplyDeletelovely story.
ReplyDeleteA loving and warm story - created from a mean-looking cold photo. (I think I like this sculpture/photo better now.)
