Z is for Zoraya

Z is for Zoraya

Zoraya is an inspiration to many far and wide
She shimmies up a pole with never a slip or a slide
With elegance and grace she twists and turns
Keeping a stoic face as she feels the burn

She’ll paint her face and her skin
Adorn her hair and then do a spin
She wraps her snake around her body
Tactile, undulating, gripping firmly

She’s a champion nationally and internationally
A firm believer in love and her family
She fits it all in with dedication and stamina
Five hours of pole training and gym is her dogma

Her husband is her coach and mentor
Her soul mate and lifelong partner
They travel the world sharing their knowledge
Giving workshops and training to share their message

She is a wife and a mother and finds time to have fun
Playing on the beach with Nic and their two sons

Time out for a couple who live in harmony
They work and play hard and eat healthily

Zoraya and Zen Arts a match made in heaven
The trust in each other’s performance is unspoken
Like minded, superb performers of skill and dedication
From people through all walks of life and nations

Y is for YOU

YOU

I love the way you look at me,
Your eyes so bright and blue.
I love the way you kiss me,
Your lips so soft and smooth.

I love the way you make me so happy,
And the ways you show you care.
I love the way you say, "I Love you,"
And the way you're always there.

I love the way you touch me,
Sending chills down my spine.
I love that you are with me,
And glad that you are mine.

I love the way you lead me through a door
I love the way you will never ignore
My silly whims and girly ways
That makes you smile throughout the day

You call us beauty and the beast
You came down from the North East
To live with these silly Southern ways
Your accent reverts back to your younger days

You were strong and gave me strength
Your shoulders broad to take my load
You showed me the right path at my crossroads
You showed me love one hundred percent

You asked me to be your wife
I will love you all my life
April holds our anniversary date
I am so pleased to be your mate.

This is OUR SONG
From the album Come On, Come On
Sung By Mary Chapin Carpenter and Joe Diffie
To hear you say my name, to see you search my eyes
To feel you touch my hand, it more than satisfies.
If I was not the first, just say I'll be the last
It's too much to expect, but it's not too much to ask.

Now I can only dream of being all you need
And I can only try to be the reason why
You think about today and forget about the past
It's too much to expect, but it's not too much to ask.

Now I can only dream of being all you need
And I can only try to be the reason why
You think about today 'cause the past is just the past
It's too much to expect, but it doesn't hurt to ask
It's too much to expect, but it's not too much to ask

Songwriters: SCHLITZ, DONALD ALAN JR. / CARPENTER, MARY CHAPIN

X is for the eX

X is for the eX

A slice of life
To cut with a knife
A portion for you,
A portion for me
It wasn't half and half.
The partnership was slanted
The way that you wanted.
Stir in a couple of children
No more a Garden of Eden.

No matter how I tried
Your love for me didn't survive
You looked and saw greener grass
Leaving me deep in the morass.
Explanations weren’t satisfactory
And you were still derogatory
So after year twenty-three
It came to a decree nisi.

For what we shared
You should have shown that you cared
Life is too short so you said
And then left my bed.

You broke my heart and my head.
Now my heart is physically broken
And nothing more is spoken.
Too little too late
You’ve sealed your own fate.

You stretched the boundaries
All I have left are the memories
Some are precious jewels to treasure
That are far too numerous to measure.

Left to pick up the pieces,
It took me a while to gather myself
But ten years down the line
This gent of mine suits me just fine

W is for Woman

WOMAN

The housewife of old was meek and mild
She looked after the house and her child
She tended to all her man’s needs
Then found time to pull up some weeds

She cleaned and washed and cooked all day long
Listening to the radio and enjoying the pop songs
Matching handbags and shoes,
Twinsets and pearls

Hair neatly coiffed and lacquered
All meals were home cooked and catered
No machines to save time and energy
Any ambitions to work were thought to be haughty

She was there to toe the line

To comfort, nurture and be his sunshine
Nothing was too much trouble, never angry
Abused physically and mentally by all and sundry

As time went on it wasn’t enough
So women found the strength to rebuff
The social norms of their lives and times
Sometimes having to commit crimes

Suffragettes and pioneers who wouldn’t be beaten
We need to thank our brave women who were certain
Who led from the front for their sisters and daughters
To find the right answers our female warriors

Taking voice and fighting hard to unite
Making sure it’s everyone’s birthright
Regarded and respected as any other human being
Genuinely admired and loved with feeling

So now we are in the 21st century
Some women are still living in penury
Working hard to change women’s lives
No longer willing to be captives

Standing against discrimination and prejudice
Knocking down the walls of the fortress
Dismissing the world of unfair bigotry
And get everyone to agree.

Standing up for women’s rights and others
As did our grandmothers and great grandmothers
Not only for sex discrimination or prejudice
Righting the wrongs in the world with fairness

Thinking of the whole world with compassion
Helping out others with consideration
Lots of empathy and sympathy along the way
Shining a light on problems small and large giving a brighter day.

V is for Victim

A Victim No More

Too nice, she won’t mind
She’s always kind
Too laid back
What does she lack?

Manipulated by another
Abused by others
Too afraid to tell those who want to know
Hidden so deep
Too hard to keep

The tears come and the face dries
Nobody knows the pain inside
Kept inside the strong castle walls
What does she do when she falls?

She makes time for others
Listens to their troubles
Then it’s turned and doubled
In on her to spite her love

Nobody believes her when she says what she feels
Don’t be stupid they say
You are wrong they are right
So she has another sleepless night

All she wants is to love and be loved
The tears flow when she is moved
Pushing out from the heart and caught
With no forethought

Tossed away like discarded paper
No use for the wrapper
Put the lid on it don’t let anybody see
The pain and love that is a divorcee

Deep, deep down
Unplumbed depths under the sea or space
A mind full of grace
Grinding out the race

Finding a way through the story
That she wrote before she was born
Making the mistakes, choosing free will
Living her life in a wonderland full of illusions

Trying to stop the agony, the pain, the hunger
Knowing she’s not getting any younger
Coming through a rebirth of love
The second chance coming from above

She grabs it with both hands
And feels like she’s playing in a band
Joy and laughter, contentment and bliss
All sealed with her loving husband’s kiss.

U is for Unknown

U is for Unknown

Unknown voices always in my ear
Is that what I hear?
Visions in my head
Is that what I read?

Dreams that disturb my nights
Such ugly sights
Remembering in the morning
As the fresh day is dawning

Troubles to leave behind
Answers still to find
From the depths of my mind
As yet to be divined.

Searching and seeking my soul
Looking for the loophole
Caught inbetween, stuck in limbo
Is it a friend or foe?

A feeling of peace envelops me
Calmness wraps me warmly
As my angel sits amongst the flowers
Slowing down each minute of each hour

T is for Tobias

You wanted to come to us early and gave us quite a shock
We took a quick look at the clock
Hannah started her car and dashed you to the maternity ward
‘Oh no,’ they said.  ‘Millie, you aren't far enough forward.’

Mummy and daddy like to prove people wrong
And out you came, small but strong
We counted all your fingers and your toes
Then we let everybody know.

The wondrous miracle next generation
With your light reddish hair and no question
That we would love and adore you and keep you safe
There would be no chance for you to be a waif.

I look at your picture every day
Loving you more in every way
Knowing that you are developing and growing
As I listen to you chuckling and cooing.

I gaze adoringly at my newest grandson
Wanting to cuddle and hug Tobias John
We call you Toby which suits you down to the ground
It feels as if you have always been around.

Your big sister Robyn
Cousins Sean, Josh and Devan
No shortage of playmates to keep you company
As we all look on proudly.

Beautiful boy

S is for Shopping

S   is for Shopping

Shopping list is like a to do list
Traipsing round the supermarket
Up and down the aisles back and forth
Shuffling and stopping looking and reaching
In and out, up and down, this way and that
Is that in my cupboard?

Do I really need more baked beans?
Out of the trolley on to the conveyor belt
Beep, beep, push and pack
Hope the ice cream doesn’t melt
Insert your card, remember your pin
Anybody watching, move your body to the side

Pack the trolley try and push it through the automatic doors
Glad to leave the hubbub of the store
Weaving in and out of the cars parking and leaving
Opening the boot and turning to get a bag
Oh no, the trolley is rolling down the road
Grabbing the handle, handbag flying
Groaning and moaning
Back to square one and home again.
It’s all done now until next week
Groundhog Day again with a few nips and tweaks.

R is for Rings

R IS FOR RINGS

He put three rings on her finger
Promise, commitment and eternity
The gemstones sparkled and shone
She put him on a pedestal but not a throne

Working two jobs day and night
There wasn’t even the energy to fight.
Holding down the house and home
Keeping the kids well fed and then some

There was no other possible choice
So still and muted was her voice
Remaining silent but screaming inside
Slowly scrabbling and exploring to find

Something hidden underneath the trappings of life
There must be more to being a mother and a wife.
Finding her identity, her soul, her meaning
Has taken patience and time and a lot of healing

She’ll leave something behind her,
Something for the future
And so begins the start of a new book
Adding many additional chapters.
