THE JOURNEY
The land was barren, the days long, a short stop to take on water for
the engine, a chance to stretch my legs.
The rusty wheels, oxide coloured metal, silenced now from the grinding,
rhythmic chugging as the train devoured the miles.
My new life beckoned, coming ever closer, it was too late to change my
mind, the wheels had been set in motion when I answered the letter. The carriages were bearing me towards my fate
along with the cattle and various ranch hands that would help my new husband-to-be
make his fortune. His dreams were now my dreams.

Very nice. I felt the movement of the train and the hope of a new beginning.
ReplyDeleteNothing like a new start in life. Good luck to her.
ReplyDeleteYour writing well describes the scene and conveys the situation perfectly.
A sense of inevitability. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteDear Sally,
ReplyDeleteI hope she's not in for disappointment. Nicely written.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Lots of questions Sally and some answers, but the moment of change has left the reader wanting more. I liked the Flash Fiction and yet there is plenty of scope for a longer story too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the support Sally! - It's nice to be back! :-)
ReplyDeleteI can imagine her sitting there with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Reminds me of going off to university!
ReplyDeleteNicely written story.
Thanks for visiting my blog and your comment :) Wow, this was a great story. I was there with her on her journey!
