FIRE
The smoke billowed from the rooftop
Covering the trees on the sloping
backdrop
The tears coursed down her cheeks
Stephanie had only lived there for a
few weeks
Her neighbours were kind and generous
Hard of hearing the old man would be
blameless
She saw him rescued by the firemen
Shouting for his wife again and again
Ben and Nora had been married 50
years
Full of love, laughter and the
inevitable tears
The firemen, grimy faced, shook their
heads in despair
They had searched the house
everywhere
Nora walked up the road
Crying out as she saw her abode.

At least there was a happy ending, under the circumstances.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness she was out at the time! I loved your poem :-)
ReplyDeleteNice idea to convert the story into a rhyme!
ReplyDeleteDear Sally,
ReplyDeleteAt least they still have each other. Nice poem.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Great Job on this one too!
ReplyDeleteGood poem, Sally. It's a shame the house burned, but the elderly couple were okay. I hope they have family who can help them. Well done. --- Suzanne
ReplyDeleteOh! Nice! So many have ended in disaster...
