THE LAKE
Do you think they really will?
Yep, they said so did Dad and Uncle Bill
What’ll they do with all the water?
Dunno, Mum said they didn't oughta.
What’ll happen to all the fish?
I suppose they’ll die and perish.
They had a big meeting in town
Mum said it was a big showdown
With lotsa men in pinstripe suits
And the mayor was in cahoots
So we can’t keep the lake?
The grown-ups said it was a mistake
They dry it up and make some money
The soldiers will come from the army
That’s why they’re all very angry.
Hi Sally, Interesting take on the lake!! hehe
ReplyDeleteThat is creative. Kids are really insightful about what goes on around them.

ReplyDeleteoh, I like that :) Very different approach
ReplyDeleteI hate those men in pinstriped suits. I'm with mum, they didn't had oughta!
ReplyDeleteClever take on the prompt... Lovely, but rather sad poem. You've captured the kids' voices beautifully.
ReplyDeleteExcellent voice Sally. Kinda makes me sad.
ReplyDelete......dhole
Excellent! I've said it before, but I love how your mind works, Sally.
ReplyDeleteThere was once a small reservoir near Eugene, Oregon. Around 30 years ago, somebody decided to get rid of it and drained it to the dismay of the locals. Dead fish abounded and all that was left were some memories of the good old days.
